Detox : The Sweetness of Doing Nothing

Body-Renewer-Food-Freedom-Tomatoes-and-basil-falling-out-of-a-brown-paper-bag

“The Sweetness of Doing Nothing” is an attitude. It is a mindset. It is the opportunity to live freely and enjoy the simple things life has to offer, whether it is a beautiful sunset, a child’s laugh or a long nap outside on a warm summer afternoon

In Italy they have a saying, “il dolce far niente“. It means “the sweetness of doing nothing”. Italians live this phrase. It is ingrained in their very nature. To them, time is not something that can be spent, wasted or passed. It simply IS. Every moment holds the possibility of goodness. Sweetness. Pleasure. Not because of how much we squeeze into it, but because of the beauty that fills life itself. Goodness, blessings and pleasure are in every moment, we just need to pause long enough to notice

If you are anything like me, waking up and wondering what you can achieve today or rushing to start to work, feed the kids, animals and read my e-mails then you have forgotten the sweetness of life. But I hear you say who will do it if I don’t do it. WHO? I have to get this and that done to earn the money to live.

I used to agree with you. I am a super multi tasker, set me a goal and will do it, I will more than do it, achievements are everything, they make me feel secure, important and appreciated. But as I rush around getting irritated with the obstacles in my way, wasting my time, I got stressed and angry. Now, I can’t let it out because I am offering the persona of Calm and Balanced and in control. Ha Ha.

Oh what a mess! Then I was asked to take a morning off every week for the next four weeks just to do nothing. I replied “You don’t know me I laughed, how would I possibly make up that time? “

But I was set a challenge so I did it, so off I go disbelieving anything would come of wasting a morning with no phone, no note book to make notes, just me, my self and I. Sitting by a river doing nothing except enjoying life as the water drifted by and the birds flew about me. What a rush! A calm rush. I downloaded and emptied my head and as I walked back to the car I saw something that made everything worth while, a Kingfisher. A totem animal that sent ne the message Kingfisher’s medicine guides in seeing into the depths of emotions and into the un/subconscious. His lesson goes much deeper than what is on the surface.
This is another opportunity to balance masculine and feminine energies. He aids communication and reaching higher spiritual energies along with the ability to express ideas with coherence. He will instruct how to remain grounded in the earth and be comfortable in doing so. Take time for yourself in quite solitude connecting to Mother Earth. Kingfisher presents a time of prosperity, love, warmth, and a new found peace of mind.

.I was so happy and was far less irritated at anything that was put in my way or wasted my time.

You can make a choice as I have, to open yourself up to the gift of self time or get sick with exhaustion, depression, ruin your loving relationships and sooner or later not be able to function at all let alone at your normal speed and efficiency.

In my quiet time I have had some brilliant ideas and I have taken action on all of them and they are brilliant. So it seems the less I do the more focused I can become.
So that was the sweetness of doing nothing? I am now ready for more and I have planned for myself a 5 day Vision Quest in nature with just water and a tent to really get in touch with nature, quiet time and my inner self.

I consider myself a pretty social person, but I’ll admit now that I recognise when I need my “ Time out” Private time” down load time” call it what you will but you need it more than you think

Those precious periodic HOURS away from everyone and everything. After a long period of running retreats, some busy weekends with family and friends as wells as my on line coaching clients, a deadline to reach for an article and news letters etc then a short holiday away visiting people. All the voices in my head were too much, the chaos, the noise I hit a feeling I was familiar with but until now would have ploughed through. I was on the threshold of irritable, and a version of myself I don’t like. If your lucky you will notice this side of yourself and gently remind yourself to retreat for a time until you feel fit for society again. So after a brief period of seclusion (usually walk or hike in nature or a sit by the river watching the river run by, I’m as good as new. In short, a bit of regular solitude keeps me civilized. I try and weave this into every week now and I long for it like an affair when I just want my private time and private thoughts.

Recent studies show that there is a very definite need to go it alone once in a while. Solo time, is apparently good for the brain as well as the spirit. New research suggests that we remember information better when we go it alone. You know yourself that when you are pushed and it seems impossible to come up with a new idea, or answer a problem just drop it, walk away and come back to it with a fresh look and it all falls into place. Well that is what we are talking about here.

The researchers explain that we’re inherently “distracted” and “’multitasking’” in the presence of others – attuned to their responses as well as the task at hand. This energy causes stress on the body and especially the Kidneys as multitasking is using adrenalin and over working is a prime way to exhaust ourselves.

In tribal cultures with traditions like vision quests, many tribal societies support the power and necessity of solitude. Time away from the tribe is seen as a test of self-sufficiency as well as a time of growth. The individual returns to the group stronger, wiser – with more to offer the group as a result of the seclusion.

Our modern culture couldn’t be more different. These days we’re also impelled by the technological imperative to stay connected. People take laptops on vacation, their smart phones to bed with them. With the constant access to virtual if not actual socialization, experts wonder if we’ve forgotten how to be completely alone, wholly cut off for a time. Can we truly submerge ourselves in solitude when we’re fighting the urge to check email or Facebook “one more time”? I see this all the time at our retreat as people come to retreat and yet say they have work to do and cannot live a day without being connected. The feeling of being indispensable is killing us. The ones who do take the time to disconnect get the value of self time far better and respect the time for not having to wear a face or smile for the world, they experience far deeper emotional breakthroughs and clarity of mind. I encourage silence for a day or morning, as it is a great way to drop into the nothingness that we so need.

In my coaching practice when I guide people through a detox week at home, or with me at the retreat, I have some easy ways to get you into a quiet space with yourself. This needs to be taught more often than not. I have several coaching exercises that keep your attention on a simple task that opens you up to nothingness in the safety and comfort of your own environment. Often at home we have tasks or hobbies that we do that end up being purposeful. I am one of the worst to recognize that every task must have a purpose, I wake up and say what can I achieve today. Doing the garden is a hobby of mine it is like a meditation until I set a goal or agenda to it,. Then, somehow, what I like to do becomes something I had to do, which became work which became a drag.
I still really like gardening. But I have this way of needing to find “purpose” in what I do with my days that sucks the enjoyment out of everything. Why do I do that? ? Oh, I want so badly to just do what I love without an agenda. Without thinking of how I could be better utilizing my time or how I could make money at it or how I could use it to help or heal people. I wish, in all of this Work Ethic or motherly and womanly guilt, I could consistently find a way to see the sweetness of doing nothing.

Time to slow down.. We know the necessity of slowing down on the surface of it all, but how will I slow down, I will guide you. The detox (to use the word) is a time to stop all exterior activity and assimilation of stuff. All distractions but just to be with yourself. To honor yourself. Shut out all distractions such as TV, Chatter from books, people, computers, advertising, being marketed and sold to every second of the day, feeling judged, fashion choices, food choices, choices everywhere.
Yes the detox is a time to fast and not eat and the necessary time and space clean the physical body but it is more, so much more if you will allow it to be.

I can show you how to stop the chatter and get clarity, find your way through it all. I will show you how to design your own divine detox at home. If you want to experience it with a friend for support, or if you want to dive in and relish all the wonderful possibilities of solitude, privacy, which I encourage , guide and support you to do. I can help you set your intentions for the detox, I can help you to prepare, and help you to come out of the detox and re enter society, make better choices in what and how you eat and consume from your environment that align better with your spirit..

The home detox box is a detox that you can do at home for all the physical benefits that it brings but if you dare to go deeper you can get a huge benefit as well from the down time it provides. The program is easy and simple to follow and with some simple guidance you can turn the detox into a time of personal growth and connect with yourself rather than your normal buzzing, chattering environment.

We use alone time, the period of a detox as personal down time to process our relationships and recalibrate our sense of self. In solitude, we can return to our center. The detox as I see it is the physical challenge of fasting as well as to clear away the rubbish of your life. You create the chance to listen to your own thoughts during those days. to use the time to reflect on the past year – what’s it’s meant for me – and to simply just be.
Detoxing and some quiet solitude reminds us of what is essential to our identities. It inspires deeper deliberation and allows for the perception of more subtle sentiment. It gives us the chance to take inventory and hear the messages from our bodies and our emotions.
So, we can home in on what is vital to our well-being and what we will take with us to return to the world.

Detoxing and Internal Cleansing for Better Yoga

What does it mean to be clean? Well, in todays’ society we usually think of being clean as showering, taking a bath or putting on fresh clothes. Being clean used to have a whole different meaning as far back as 1500 BC when the Egyptians were not only cleaning their external bodies but their internal bodies as well.

Early Proponents

Colon hydrotherapy, more simply known as an enema, originated with the Egyptians around 1500 BC. They partook in the cleansing activity at least several times a month. Enemas used to be such a normal part of life kings and queens would actually engage in the process discreetly while socializing. While most of us probably don’t want to take it that far, internal cleansing with enemas can be part of a regular health regime.
Over 2,000 years ago Hippocrates, the well-known Greek physician, affectionately known as the “Father of Medicine” and perhaps one of the first holistic practitioners, used enemas to treat fevers. His philosophy? Treat the whole body, not just the part that seems sick.
During the late 1800s and early 1900s Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, best known for his societal contribution of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes®, advocated the use of enemas on a grand scale. The doctor used proper nutrition, physical activity and enemas to treat illnesses associated with the GI tract.

What, How and When?

What are enemas and how do they work to benefit our health?
Enemas use nature’s gift of pure, clean, (warm) water to gently fill the colon. The water stays put for a few minutes, facilitating the release of the mucoid plaque which lines our intestines. This plaque is indicative of all the toxins we have accumulated over the years. If you have ever seen an image of mucoid plaque it is a motivating sight. You will want to rid your body of this unsightly mass pretty quickly. In addition to its’ unappealing aesthetic properties the plaque inhibits the absorption of nutrients. No matter how well you might eat or how many nutrients you take in, if your body can’t absorb them they are completely useless.
When is a good time to cleanse? Internal cleansing can be done whenever you find your digestion is sluggish, e.g., constipation, feel a cold or congestion coming on or you are lethargic and bloated. Cleansing with an enema carries away toxins, especially when accompanied by fasting or a diet regime that releases toxins into your bloodstream.
You may be wondering if this is a safe process. Enemas only engage the sigmoid colon or the part of the large intestine closest to the rectum, making it a totally safe practice.

What Ails You?

Internal cleansing is credited with alleviating symptoms from too many ailments to possibly remember. They range from severe migraines to high blood pressure to colitis to lupus to uterine fibroids to diabetes.
Being unclean bogs us down emotionally, physically and spiritually. Imagine what you can accomplish when you are set free from the waste and toxins that have accumulated in your body over your lifetime.

Benefits

Your energy level will soar, your cells will come alive, the unwanted weight you’ve never been able to get rid of will go and your overall strength will improve. Cleansing is the best skincare program I know about too. Your complexion will shine and so will your eyes.

The Yoga Connection

“Walking is man’s best medicine.” Hippocrates prescription sounds like something from a modern-day healthcare provider. Clearly he advocated physical activity and exercise as a component of being healthy.
Where does the practice of yoga fit in to all this? In addition to all the other benefits derived from internal cleansing the ability to practice yoga more effectively is another one. Whether your yoga preference is Hatha, Iyengar, Kundalini, Astanga or power yoga, cleansing will help you push past what you thought were your body’s limits.
You are lighter, freer and stronger! You have extra endurance, strength and flexibility.
Do you suffer from arthritis? Inflammation of the joints has become a common ailment in today’s society, making even simple movements painful. This leads to inactivity and weight gain. Internal cleansing will release the calcium deposits on your joints making bending and stretching easier and more enjoyable. Your mobility will be greatly improved.
In fact, any sport will benefit from internal cleansing.

1-2-3 Clean!

The Egyptians and Hippocrates also practiced fasting along with the use of enemas, with the earliest records of fasting dating back 10,000 years.
The complete internal cleansing process involves fasting, detoxing and enemas. Fasting means no food, allowing your body and your digestion to take a well-deserved break. Detoxing utilizes psyllium fiber and bentonite. Psyllium pushes unwanted debris through and out, while bentonite takes on the toxins as if they were their very own with the enema completing the process. Cleansing the colon through the use of enemas, along with detoxing and fasting maximizes the benefits you will see and feel.
Hippocrates told us “Healing is a matter of time, but it is also a matter of opportunity.” If we take the time and the opportunities made available to us in the form of knowledge and professional support we will find renewed health. Internal cleansing leads to innate healing which frees the mind body and spirit. This enables the body to take its’ natural course and find health again.

The Missing Nutrient that Saved the Day, and has helped me to go all the way..

I live a very special kind of life, I am grateful for all of my experiences that I have manifested and the way I have chosen to follow my healthy path, and especially how I run my business as a health and fitness partner to some really amazing people.

Yet sometimes as a health freak and wellbeing coach I get cornered, and life throws me a surprising curve ball. So it seems strange to see me opting for less than wholesome or totally un-healthy options from time to time. My companions, friends and people who meet me and who know who I am and for what I stand for, are rather flummoxed when they see me choose such unhealthy options.
Yet I am fully aware that these are my comfort foods when I am in a time of need, or when I am feeling that I am deserving more in life or for when I am just really angry and frustrated.

I am very aware of what I am doing. I have learnt that these are the times when I have not been taking care of my deepest needs. For me a quick fix to getting what is missing is comfort food, it fills a gap and temporarily gives me the feeling of being safe and home.
I am happily to say that I have uncovered my mystery of how to fulfill my own deepest needs, and when I do these comfort foods are not even an option for me any more.

So if you are a health freak like me and find yourself surprised by your midnight binging, or if you are tired of the increasing weight gain and don’t know how to stop the cravings. I can help.

The mystery is that it is not ALL about what we eat,
but rather what we seek.
My skill is in changing what and how you eat forever.
By adding in, not taking away.

I am so passionate about it and have personally seen what a difference it has made to me, as well as a small section of my community, that I want to share this with you.

Last year I made some rather large decisions in my life, which has resulted in some rather difficult stuff for me to face, acknowledge and let go of and be OK with.

One thing came out from all of this which is a big pattern for me, and that is as much as I love my health and my zealous route to health via Detoxing, cleansing, fasting, Raw and alkalizing food, yoga and natural products, something HUGE was still missing. As I went in search of this BIG missing item I have discovered myself anew.

One of the reasons I do my regular detoxes and keep to my major pure and Raw food diet was to give me more energy and stay healthy. I had both of my children in my 40’s and I decided then and there I wanted and needed to stay active for them as they grew and wanted to run and play more. I did not want to be left behind as they became teenagers. So I got busy with my diet and found increasingly new ways of how to detox the body, I saw and felt massive improvements and wanted more of these feelings. Did you know that being so concentrated on what’s healthy actually has an official name which is Orthorexia. (is an obsession with eating a “pure” diet, which usually entails avoiding foods with artificial colors, flavors or preservatives, unhealthy fats, added sugar or salt, and genetic modification)

I was keeping to my path of healthy eating and taking my Yoga classes walking and taking care of myself or so I thought, but and here’s the rub I felt that I was deserving something else, much more. I was exhausted and was still striving for my fullest energy. What could be more satisfying than a healthy body and energy to spare? That concept had taken me so far but I soon realised I was not nourishing myself at all. I was working hard and building my health business, caring for my children and family, maintaining my house, pets and the garden, well just about coping actually if the truth be known, but I felt tired and drained and was feeling I had to force myself to stay on track. When all I craved was some comfort, and my chosen habitual comfort foods.

Two years ago I hit an emotional wall and I discovered that I needed more time for myself, so I started to take time out for walks, quiet river time, meditation, all that was good but I still missed something, where’s the fun? Where’s the adventure? I need to be cheeky and take some risks and have some thrills if I am to stay alive, I mean really alive. I felt stagnant and well to be honest I did not take care of my other needs that well either. I missed my appointments with myself to take time out from the office, or book a massage, or sit in the garden and read. I heard myself saying to myself “that’s all well and good, but I need to work now, who else will bring in the money we need?”. Don’t get me wrong I really get great satisfaction from my work and seeing my clients flourish. So I though that was more than enough for me, along with my very healthy lifestyle.

However I was left feeling unfulfilled and what do we do when we are unfulfilled? We look for ways to fill ourselves up. Now anyone who knows me, knows of my addiction to crisps. I took some time to contemplate this question and I asked myself why I needed the crisps ? it was a clear message that I heard, :”Because I deserve them, I have been working so hard and caring for everyone else, where is my treat?, I need a treat.”
What I have found is that by connecting with my self, and listening to my body in the special ways that I use and that I can easily teach you, I can finally see and understand what was missing.
I have learnt that as I take care of me and I mean really take care of me on every level, in all aspects of my life, my craving and need for filling myself up with something naughty like crisps or to go on a shopping spree for this elusive items that just adds to my wardrobe has diminished. My healthy appetite for pure natural foods have been restored and I have discovered that I can relax more and be happier. I have more energy for the things I want to do and I really know what it is that I desire in every sense of the word, and what’s more I can allow myself to receive it in every day.

My passion is re newed as I have allowed my self my missing nutrient, and in my case it is exhilaration and thrills, and I have researched how I get these the most and added them in to my life, eg: horse riding, running, anything with speed and excitement and a little danger too, this makes me feel really, really alive.
Everyone has there own special nutrient and I am so happy that I have found mine it has changed everything for me, Now that mine is overflowing I am happy to watch you reach your true potential as I have. By partnering with you, I can quickly guide you to find what it is that you really need to be fulfilled, so that comfort eating is a thing of the past. I will teach you how to change what and how you eat forever. This is only really possible and sustainable once you have discovered what it is that you need on a deeper more satisfying level.

No amount of salads and green juices will get you to where you want unless you are fulfilled and finding your food and your life a pleasure. If your food is not a pleasure you will be looking elsewhere until you can feel full up. You know the search and drama that happens as you look into your fridge and cupboards late at night for something to fill the gap. But is it food that you really need? NO….

This is a unique adventure that will help you to feel so fulfilled, you will discover and know what you really desire and be able to ask for it and better still actually get it. I will teach you the unique ways that you can Nourish yourself and watch you as you flourish beyond your expectations. I will guide you through and create a truly healthy and tasty menu that suits you and fulfills you. No amount of healthy food that actually tastes like medicine will fulfill you either.

SWAP foods for Natural Health

Firstly, to swap Carbonated water for a good still water source.

Our blood and all our systems for that matter thrive in a alkaline environment that is around pH 7.35. We function best when our body is alkaline and can flush our bodies with pure uncontaminated water to flush away toxins and acidity that has built up from our acidic environments such as Physical exertion = Lactic acid, Lack of excersie = Carbonic acid, Stress and anger = Hydrochloric acid, Coffee, tea and red wine = Tannic acid, Sweets and white flour products = Acetic acid and Meat products = Uric acid.

Carbonated water is acidic as are soft drinks = Phosphoric acid. So adding anything acidic will make us more acidic and deplete our alkaline environment. Making our kidneys work even harder to flush out the acidity and return us to an alkaline state where we will flourish.

Pure water- still eater that is bottled that has a slightly more alkaline reading and one that has a dry residue reading of less that 100mg l. is best to flush our body with. The fewer minerals we consume by the water having a low dry residue reading the better as the kidneys work hard to filter these minerals out. The kidneys work non-stop to keep our blood at 7.35 pH. So why would we want to stress them further with working even harder than they are already. As for tap water this is normally proceed chemically before it comes into our house for drinking. However lots of these contaminants slip through these filters and are still evident in our tap water. Tap water can have up to 700 chemicals in it as well as residue of medicines and hormones. Which the kidneys’ again have to filter out.

Secondly, Add more fiber to your diet

Fiber is essential to our digestion process for it to work efficiently. We need a minimum of 50 g of good fiber a day of both Soluble and in soluble fiber. Soluble fiber forms a gel that soaks up cholesterol and stabilizes blood sugar levels. This can be found in Oats, Apples and Pysyllium ( BTW the main ingredient of my Home Detox Box and the 7 day detox program I run)

Insoluble fiber acts as a brush sweeping away the digestive waste to cleanse the digestive tract and to add bulk to your stool. Cereals, nuts and vegetables provide the insoluble fiber.

A high fiber diet can be achieved by adding fruits and vegetable and whole grains in their raw form, with the skins intact with their husks intact. Like whole rice, whole grain cereals.
All processed foods that are white have been stripped of their valuable fiber content.

A first simple step is to look at the packaging and choose a high fiber breakfast cereal such as All Bran over Corn flakes, or alternatively add more raw foods into your diet. Choose to take a Phsyllium husk powder that has soluble and insoluble fiber to add in the necessary fiber to your day.

Swap Bread of Nori Rolls and Rice Wraps.

In our current culture we are habitually filling up on a wheat based meal or snack in which to hold or contain some other ingredient. The Sandwich has swept the world and are the staple source of food for most lunches if not added with most meals Most of these breads are highly processed forms of wheat which means all the good fibre had been removed as well as the germ ( the actual good and living part ) so that we are left with the white flour that has a longer shelf life. This is the gluten part and you can remember it with the saying glue x 10. When we mix flour and water it makes a glue and will stick all our insides together this glue and cause all sorts of problems like constipation, IBS, brain fog, bloated tummy as well as making us extremely tired just after we have eaten it.

Alternative and interesting options to contain your salad lunch would be the Nori Roll, These are sheets that are made form seaweed and are most well known for sushi. The seaweed is an excellent source of nutrients and full of minerals that we can absorb and are seldom found in vegetables grown on land.
It has a high iodine content which is needed to produce thyroid hormones which control our metabolism.
The second alternative is the Rice Wrap, made from 100{6a14cc849908c46212f3d2c8a81eada984febec31535ea1cc7f55de4f8a4ba8e} rice and water this sheet can be manipulated when wet into creating a roll that can easily hold delicious vegetables and salad combinations.

These both make an exotic and healthy choice for lunch or dinner

On my detox work shops I teach you how to make these as well as the whole food dipping sauces like sweet chili sauce, Yum

Fiona Robertson

Detox addict and her confessions.

Addiction seems such a strong word doesn’t it? Although, the feelings of wellbeing, pure energy, not to mention improved health which can result in feelings of superiority and self-righteous are very real.  Being addicted to something that makes you feel better can still be an addiction and can stress the body at a cellular level, just as much a psychological dependency on such things as: comfort food, gambling, drink, computer games, shopping, work, exercise and TV shows which get us through the day.

All these behaviours count and are recognized as addictions that can cause symptoms that are associated with them such as: guilt, shame, fear, failure and rejection. All dependencies that tax the body, Yes! even excessive good habits can result in common complaints such as stress, physical aches and pains and medical conditions that can end up in emotional turmoil, depression and real ill health.

My story is …and I must make a confession here “I am addicted to detoxing”. I enjoy that feeling of living a pure clean body, putting onto and into my body and mind only pure foods, products and thoughts that serve me well. I love the extra energy and the feelings of being more connected to mother earth.

So we may have considered an addiction as just being a bad thing that harms us, but how can one that we can regards as healthy cause stress on our body and cellular structure? Being strict with ourselves to a point where we feel we are right and others are wrong, or judge ourselves and others for their choices, is not very loving or even human. We are all human and not so perfect as we like to make out all the time. Here is an interesting excerpt from an article naming a diet and lifestyle of pure healthy foods as Orthorexia.

“Orthorexia begins, innocently enough, as a desire to overcome chronic illness or to improve general health. But because it requires considerable willpower to adopt a diet that differs radically from the food habits of childhood and the surrounding culture, few accomplish the change gracefully. Most must resort to an iron self-discipline bolstered by a hefty dose of superiority over those who eat junk food. Over time, what to eat, how much, and the consequences of dietary indiscretion come to occupy a greater and greater proportion of the orthorexic’s day.
The act of eating pure food begins to carry pseudospiritual connotations. As orthorexia progresses, a day filled with sprouts, umeboshi plums, and amaranth biscuits comes to feel as holy as one spent serving the poor and homeless. When an orthorexic slips up (which may involve anything from devouring a single raisin to consuming a gallon of Haagen Dazs ice cream and a large pizza), he experiences a fall from grace and must perform numerous acts of penitence. These usually involve ever-stricter diets and fasts.”
Health Food Junkie. Obsession with dietary perfection can sometimes do more harm than good, says one who has been there. by Steven Bratman, M.D.

I am as I confessed a detox addict, I would also point out that I do have an otherside desperate to break free to my healthy, calm goody two shoes lifestyle. That is that I am by character a spirited, cheeky, rebellious girl and I like to be naughty. So by nature all this clean living and seemingly conforming to the clean good life is far too far away form life on the edge, where adrenalin flows and all the rules are there to be broken. Too much clean pure eating and being good every moment of the day are pushing me to be more rebellious and I will always find ways to sabotage and spice up every good effort. There is an underlying attitude therefore that I deserve something special and even naughty for all this good. A need for a feeling of adrenalin rushing through my body. I now recognise this and I am seeking my balance by adding in some non food related spice for life like horse riding and long hours of dancing to bring back the adrenalin feeling and other special treats for my emotional being, to pander to that feeling that I deserve something special which are far better for me than opening the regular packet of crisps.

I am seeking my balance in all of this and as much as I am addicted to detoxing as I ever was. I am now discovering through my love of the detox feeling, that there are new depths about myself that I can recognise with a new clarity and acceptance. A cleansed body brings about openness and a new understanding to what cellular cleansing can do for you. I can now dive deep into my cellular consciousness and rid myself of hurts and pain at a deeper level that has lain hidden and that I have blocked for years. I was just not really willing or ready to confront the real truth before. Thanks to opening up and clearing away much of the rubbish (literally) that has kept me closed I can now in all honesty face my demons face on.

Why a cleansed colon brings about mental and emotional clarity.

The colon has been mapped out into 72 reflex areas by Dr Bernard Jensen, each corresponding to specific organs as well as areas that correspond to mental ability, memory, animation and ego. He theorized that old waste that has become toxic and stagnant in the colon will affect the tissue of corresponding organs and body parts. I believe that this stagnant waste is also affecting our mental and emotional clarity. Our bodies are communicating to us constantly and when the pathways are clear we are able to hear, and pay attention to what it needs.

When we understand the meridian concept this becomes even clearer. Meridians are after all the basis for many ancient therapies such as acupuncture, shiatsu and reflexology, they use the meridians which are energy pathways running through the body like tiny harp strings. These pathways carry energy and oxygen throughout your body and cross over and through the colon.

The therapist will use specific points to remove the blockages and clogs on your meridians.
Then try and dissolve the blockage so that it will pass through the blood, and out of the bowel, the bladder and the skin.

In ancient times this worked, because there were far less waste available for the body to wade through, we were more active as a rule and there were far fewer toxins for us to absorb, nowadays because of the size and the depth of the blockage, the subtly of acupuncture and shiatsu will not remove the matter on their own.

This is where caring for the colon comes in. The meridians pass throughout the body and through the colon. The colon in one of the first organs to grow and can be seen on the scan as an embryo and can be traced in the iris of the eye. I tell you this so that you know that the colon is more than a dumping ground for waste, but a major integral part of you and your physical and emotional health.
The colon is closely connected with the main meridian passages. This means that when we are clogged in the bowel area we are stopping the flow of energy through these meridians. When the meridian is blocked and the therapist plucks that string, and the string does not vibrate then the whole meridian from it’s start to finish is rendered useless.

When we empty specific areas of the bowel, the meridians that connect to that part have been freed up and now are capable of making sound and vibrations again. This is why when people cleanse they can feel their neck, back and knee pains go away as well as their ability to concentrate for longer and have clear thoughts and cope better with their emotions.*****

Just recently, I found my self incredibly emotional and in serious need of balancing my emotions. How did I know I needed help? Well once I recognized it, it was easy. I was in tears during my days at the slightest thing, My weekly French lessons were an internal battle where I struggled to control myself from another tearful bath and I was beating my self up constantly for not doing well enough in so many areas of my life: motherhood, business, relationships, raw food and health journey, etc, etc.
I heard myself being called a perfectionist, which I rejected and forcefully denied, (naturally) however the evidence was in my face. My next step was to start to care and listen to myself. I listened to where my body was speaking to me where it held the hurt. I allowed myself to feel the pain and fill my entire body. I did not run or cover it up with food or shopping or try distract myself.

I felt all the way’s I had been acting with myself and deep down I discovered where I had been holding on to this emotion. To help with the emotional side I dowsed for Bach Flower remedies to help my emotional state. These immediately calmed the waters and my thoughts I had about my accomplishments. (or lack of)
At the same time I read this description that opened my eyes to myself:
Here is an excerpt form my Bach Remedy book *****………that hit the nail on the head

” She holds herself upright, she holds herself in, and tries all the time to be a good example and to influence others around her through her attitude and example”

Here was another example:

“I study and I am strict with myself in my diet. I don’t eat meat, but I eat plenty of fruit. I don’t drink tea or coffee. Neither do I eat white bread or pastries. I live a clean life. I do not smoke or drink alcohol”

But let it me remarked that this rigidity or out look caused more suffering and emotional damage ( at a cellular level ) that any piece of white bread would ever have caused.

The remedies that came up for me were:

  • Rock water for being tough on myself
  • Elm for perfectionism
  • Agramony for putting on a brave face when underneath the emotions are ready to erupt.

I only NOW saw with such clarity that the strict path I had put myself on to achieve to my high expectations in all areas of my life were now serving me up a discontented rather than a perfect life.

I was being so hard on myself that I was punishing myself into a pit of dispair. When really I was doing rather well, if only I could see it. Old patterns were emerging of setting high goals and strict regimes either from myself or others.
I openly admit that I can now see…..

One month on and the first stage over with. I hit a new crisis in my body. It was demonstrating to me what it’s needed to be dealt with next. Far from being tired I have the energy I want, but my belly is huge like I am pregnant. I have noticed this over time off and on, except now I can feel the pushing form the inside and the desire to deal with something much deeper.

Well I discover it is a subject I have been putting off and my body knows just how to get my attention. I am still going through the experience and results so It is hard to say how it will all work out. But given the time during the summer to work on myself my body wasted no time in telling me what it wanted.

Needless to say I have dug deep into the depths that I would rather have not gone to. It was for me to recognize the healing gift in these emotional times from the past, that now needed to be dealt with, to be revealed, loved for what they were and released. Each area that needed looked at had a similar theme and I recognized the gift that was being presented to me by me and in seeing a new way to deal with my emotions in the future.

I have held down and swallowed great hurts that have caused my body emotional stress on my cellular structure. I am trusting the process and seeking help from a local healer and shaman Manech Ibar as well as my great friend and fabulous transformational healer Kim Hutchinson in Germany. Both have helped me enormously. No one is alone and we all need to get help when we come to such points in our personal development.

As you detox and lighten up your diet, anything that does not serve you physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually will come up for healing, change, transforming and releasing. Anything that does not serve you can be let go of once it is given something to replace it that is of a higher vibration and nature.

I tell you this as a positive example of the results from regular detoxing which are not just physical. Although this is what draws us all to cleanse and detox in the first place, but there is something that can make us happier and more fulfilled on a much deeper level.

Emotions can be released in a number of ways but it is best to stop making so many emotions in the first place. They are after not a state of reality and are all just in the head. I have discovered that they are in fact a healing gift. What is it that is being presented to me? and what is the universe showing me about myself?

We have many therapists here at Retreat Biarritz who will help you learn how release these mental emotions.  Christophe is an NLP instructor and teacher who will help you understand where your beliefs originated. Or with Manech Ibar our local shaman who will use many ancient methods of healing and mystical discovery to tap into your soul for healing. Bernedette can help you through her past life regression sessions where you discover many deeper reasons for why things happen the way the do.

The reason for getting to a better place when we detox is because we lighten our load that we carry in the colon in particular.

Detox opens me up to my emotions?

Body-Renewer-Relationship-with-food-and-your-inner-world-text-with-an-image-of-vegetables

This has been a question that has made me very curious for a long time. I’ve known for a long time that it is well recognized that it happens, that food has a way to numb our feelings and that we use food for so many emotional and comfort reasons, but what intrigued me was, how can I adapt and live with my emotional and eating patterns, when I know what to do but help me I sometimes cannot control my cravings. They do not go away entirely, and as I clean up my diet they continue to show up and help me to be aware of my reactions and responses to situations and how I see myself. So I have to say a big fat Thank You to the fact that my need for comfort eating was in fact asking me to listen and see what I was and am actually doing.

A detox opens you up to yourself to be more aware of yourself.

A detox be that a juice fast, a colon cleanse, a raw food diet has cleaned you up raised your vibration and has taken away the heavy lower vibration foods that slow us down and slow down our mind. Food is used to numb our senses and detach us from our heart and what the body is desperate to let us hear and feel.
A detox including a short fast is the best way that I know of to get you to into a safe place where we willingly start to listen. When we stop digesting food we have the down time to re evaluate, re charge and reset all of our systems. It is one of the best ways I know to really take care of myself. And I have seen it over the past 7 years watching wildly different people get clarity and understand themselves better.

So when I was able to learn more about this I jumped at the chance to further my own investigations and to be of better service to you and have some more fun around food. I hear the same or very similar stories, time and time again. Questions and curiosities about food being your drug of choice, and how can we learn to live with it and overcome the overeating cravings. It’s all so, so serious out there, that I am happy to play with this subject for as long as it takes. I will experiment and continue to coach and run workshops around this subject and help you to get clarity for yourself about what food is calling you to really see and feel.
So to all us over eaters, binge eaters, controlled eaters and all the rest of the comfort eater types, I want you to know that I will be slowly leading you down a path of self discovery.

It is way bigger than the food we eat and how we eat and even bigger than the when and why we eat. It’s a huge subject that has got my attention and my passion rising.
Everyone has to eat, and so we cant avoid food all together. Even if we have found raw food and juices and are really healthy most of us still use food in some way and as a way to sedate ourselves, and that’s OK if we are first aware of why and what we are doing. This is just Step One.

Deeper would be to see that food and our relationship with food is a mirror of how we react in just about every relationship we have.

Its not enough to know where the patterns originated, but to go further still would be to re connect with your body so that it can personally tell you, and so that you can hear and feel when you are stressed and would normally use food as your only tool to de stress and comfort the situation.

But first wouldn’t it be great fun to suspend all of our beliefs around food, what’s good, bad, healthy, what he or she thinks are the best superfoods ever or the best diet for everyone. We are all different and we were all educated, and brought up differently, how to be with and around food, our understanding of etiquette and manners, and as we are all different we want to be fulfilled quite differently as well.

No one diet fits all.

So then we have to take responsibility for ourselves, our health, our own likes and dislikes, listen to what our bodies tell us when we eat something, or in a situation that is difficult or extreme. So experimentation and discovering is what’s called for, to go on an adventure with the food and the mood you eat in.

In daily life it’s common that we don’t ask ourselves how we feel at every turn, how did that affect me, how did that situation make me feel, so when we get a chance for the quiet time we begin to feel. For most of us that would be in the evening, when we are alone, for me when the children have gone to bed. We are alone at last and the body and heart are so happy to get our full attention, the information about the day begins to  literally flood in. There is no volume control or speed control its just a huge Woosh, and its actually very difficult to take it all in, overwhelming is a good way to describe it. So to slow down this stored reservoir of information and feelings we choose an addiction. One of the safest is food, others are drink, gambling, shopping, any form of distraction that gets you to relax and not feel the situation. Workaholics are often not aware that this too is part of their addiction pattern.
The body wants to be heard and if we don’t take time to hear it then it will make us stop and listen, accidents happen, illnesses, viruses, burnouts and situations out of our control will manifest Into our lives.

I had a telephone client recently who was using food as her nourishment and comfort but she did not know why. She wanted help to shop her habit of emptying the fridge and a wine bottle once she returned home, as the consequences were that she had gained weight and wanted to lose it and she was exhausted all the time.

The discomfort for her had reached a pinnacle point and she knew she needed help. We resolved that when she was able to feel into her body and she recognized that she needed stronger boundaries. All day long she would help out and take on more work that was her job, and she was giving away her power.
We worked on her expressing herself better with some fun exercises that we did together and we worked on expressing her anger and frustration. She can now vent her anger in a really healthy way when her boundaries have been crossed, and when she communicates she can do so from a safe place and now she feels heard and respected and especially that she is able to articulate what she wants to say.

She explains that “I can now stand up for myself and I am so proud of the way I can tell someone what I want and need. I have never felt that I can feel into my body when it’s hurt or angry, I have learned how to relax and I know what I can do. I am still learning but I feel so happy with my experiment so far. My eating is much, much better as  have realistic boundaries that I have chosen to respect, Oh and I am looking for a new job.”

A detox will open you up to be more aware and conscious of yourself. You have given your body a great and long-awaited opportunity to tell you and speak to you about what S/he needs. We need only to learn how to listen.
